Fine Artist Exhibition Commissions

Below are several exhibition commissions for different fine artists or fine artist groups, from animating 3D scans, to the creation of look-alike avatars, to modeling historical furniture for the purpose of 3D printing. These projects were released throughout years 2017 to 2024. The programs used for these artworks include: Cinema 4D, Octane Render, ZBrush, and Daz 3D.

Joanna Nordahl & Ludvig Daae — The Viral Dance

Going viral refers to how content spreads rapidly online, though the reasons behind it remain uncertain. In 2018, creative duo Daae/Nordahl trained an AI on 250 viral dance videos to analyze movement patterns and simulate a brand-new choreography—the world’s first AI-created viral dance. Their project, The Viral Dance, explores the past and future of connectivity through an international exhibition, online experiment, and live performance featuring various artists from around the world.

For this project, Nicole Ruggiero was commissioned in 2018 to create lifelike avatars of Daae and Nordahl. Using motion capture data from their AI-generated choreography and the programs Daz 3D, Cinema 4D, and Octane Render, she also animated their digital doubles, bringing their movements to life. These animations, along with behind-the-scenes process videos, were integrated into Daae and Nordahl's live performances, enhancing the visual experience of the project.

Benny Or — Silent Echos

In 2024, Benny Or commissioned Nicole Ruggiero to model a yolk-back chair for his exhibition, Silent Echos, which uses the chair as a symbol and motif to embody a deeply personal inner quest to connect with his grandparents and Chinese heritage. The chair was modeled in Cinema 4D and sculpted in ZBrush, with references from classic yolk-back chairs from Sotheby's and Christies auctions.

Alison Nguyen  — Andra8

In 2019, Nicole Ruggiero art directed the creation of Alison Nguyen's 3D avatar for the 2021-2022 release of Andra8: my favorite software is being here. Andr8 is a body of work centering on a computer-generated woman based on the artist’s physicality. The CGI woman is a simulacral subaltern created by an algorithm and raised by the Internet in the isolation of a virtual void. From the apartment where she has been ‘placed’ Andra8 works as a digital laborer, surviving off the data from her various ‘freemium’ jobs as a virtual assistant, a data janitor, a life coach, an aspiring influencer, and content creator.

The avatar was created with the help of Michael Perzigian (HEALBELL) who used Daz 3D for its creation.

Andre Hemer — Sky Sculptures

Hemer commissioned Ruggiero in 2018 to create seven animations using 3D scans of his signature paint swatches, which are typically featured in his paintings, to develop a digital extension of his work. These animations were created in Cinema 4D and Octane Render and are displayed on screens, often alongside his paintings in gallery settings.
